Hunkering Down

Woke this morning to light snow.  Seems like the storm they predicted for  the evening is arriving earlier.  Phone call.  2-hour early release at school.  Evan and I pick up Chase first.  Safely back home to lunch and nap for Evan.

Evan keeps napping so my friend Tina will pick up Skyler and go to her house for an impromptu playdate with Madeleine.  Chase waits for Skyler.  Tina graciously offers to drop Skyler off.  The sky darkens and finally, surprisingly, thunder.  Thundersnow.

Chase sits on my lap, waiting for the storm, waiting for more thunder.  Flakes start falling and fast.  Now we both wait for Skyler.  Finally, she arrives!  

One more now.  Dad.  Office closed early and driving home from metro.                  5:30 arrival, safe!  It's hairy out there, he says.  Laughter with tears in my eyes.

Everyone back in the cave, cozy and warm.  This mama bear can finally relax.

4:15 pm  Snow starting to fall.

4:45 pm  Sirens blaring in the distance.
