America's Best Idea--For Free

On Monday, MLK Jr. Day, we took advantage of the Free Entrance Days at the National Parks and visited Great Falls Park.  Kurt and I have been here several times before, both pre-kids and with our older two, and each time I've visited, I have been blown away by the mesmerizing power of the falls.  The overcast day along with the winter foliage (or lack thereof) only added to the stark, almost bizarre beauty of the scenery.  I felt small--my insignificance punctuated--and simultaneously overcome by a surge of energy, an inebriation that could fly me clear over to Maryland.

Skyler and Chase, on the other hand, were less interested in the falls and more excited about climbing on the rocks, throwing snowballs, and hearing their voices carry on the wind as they shouted inanities.  Evan was in full, all-boy toddler force, keeping daddy busy, running amok, enjoying the open space and his sweet liberty.  It was a perfect ending to a great weekend.
